Customer Service is a lost Art!

I have to say i’ve been the recipient of some bad service over my times at different places and after my Xbox fiasco I was once again reminded of the fact that people just don’t care anymore.

My most recent incident was hair in my baked potato, now I thought i was doing a service by asking for just a new baked potato – and not the rack of ribs that were with it.

Now typically I’d expect a decent level of service from a place that averages 20$ a plate for all its dishes.

I did not get more than a “we’ll get you another one” – with 10 minutes between wanting a soda refill and someone showing up to ask us if we wanted one (aka not our waitress that had taken my glass the 10 minutes before).

So they got a less than stellar tip though I probably shouldn’t have tipped at all.

I mean to come by after being late and asking us if we wanted desert? It should have been offered free as an appology as far as I’m concerned. When a customer has to send something back for hair or other particles or recieves bad service it should be automatic…

Alas this year its not as bad as getting a tray of drinks spilled on me at East Side Mario’s – They didnt do anything there either other than hang up my coat somewhere else to dry.

It could be worse I suppose I’ve never gotten food poisioning yet.

What do you mean 5-7 Days.

While I have a moment I want to cover something from a few days ago – I called Xbox support to get my tracking number that didn’t show up in my email for the 3rd time.

This time the “gentleman” was kind enough to inform me that they did infact, after 5 minutes of looking and probably the “smart” guy next to him helping, send my box to ship the xbox back and I should recieve it in the next 5-7 business days and here is a tracking number and show’s that it is in Toronto.

Satisfied they finally seemed to be on the ball I hung up and got back to work… ofcourse 2h later purolator called and said the package was infact in down the street from the house.

So it is now in transit hopfully to be returned…. as long as they let the housesitter get it without sending it back – all will be good.

Surprised things worked but time to get back to Vacationing.

Being lied to Again and Again.

I have to say my experience with Xbox live support is as indicated before horrible… to prove that my skill at predicting the previous day’s efforts were wasted I called to get my tracking number yesterday.

Lets see if I can get a little dialog going:

Me “Hello, I’m missing the tracking number for the repair I called about”

Them: “I’m sorry sir we don’t have a repair process for you”

Me: Yes you do I called the other day and the guy confirmed that everything was good to go – considering it was my 3rd attempt at a repair process – WTF is going on?

Them: “Our Servers have been down for a few days now”

Me: “Well two things? Has it been 8 days? and if not you’re still telling me that the person I spoke to lied to me – he did nothing for me when I called last time”

Them: “I wouldnt say he lied”

Me: “No I’m telling you he lied you don’t have to blame a co-worker I’m blaming him for you…. for that matter do you have an expedited queue for repairs – because I better be in that like the first guy said I was”

Them: “What do you mean by expedited queue… we don’t have any such thing”

Me: “So i’ve had to call in 3 times, been lied to twice and am now going to be without the xbox for probably two months…. what are you guys gonna do for me?”

Them: “Well we can send you a printout and you can mail it today that’ll speed it up…. ”

Me: You mean you want me to pay to ship a repair that someone other than you has lied about twice now, no I won’t do that – what are you gonna do to keep my service.

Them: “One free month of XBox Live Gold”

Now I didnt bother explaining to them that I make more in the time I was on the phone with them than that 1 month is worth… might hurt her feelings after all I don’t want to be a jerk to a call center person that wasn’t the original problem….

Final thing though.

Me: Can i get the contact to complain about my previous service directly to your company (aka not microsoft that won’t care)….

No. I have to go through Microsoft.

I respected Costas decision to forgo XBOX after multiple Red Ring’d consoles simply because it seemed odd. After watching the correct process when Mona had to return hers (7 days total time) I thought that his situation was probably just an abboration or a learning mistake they fixed.

I now stand on the cusp of complete anger at their inability to continue that good service I saw sometime last year.

Step 1: Request Repair Online
Step 2: Call because Repair is not processed correctly. Get them to fix the fact that they can’t handle “no space in your Postal Code”
Step 3: Call because the last guy screwed up – was told I was out of warrenty – corrected “mistaken” customer support person and ridiculed him until he processed another request.
Step 4 – Expect to repeat steps 1-3 again before getting a box – estimated time without xbox – minimum 1 month now.

Seething in K-Town.

Inappropriate Pictures.

Is it appropriate to post a co-worker’s picture of him spilling a drink on himself… particularly when he looked like he wet himself?

So tempting… so inappropriate… so unfortunate I have the honor that his Risk 2210 AD backstabbing-self does not have… for it is a very funny picture… oh well at least I get to send it to his wife – she can determine if it goes elsewhere.

Rose Coloured Glasses

Dan’s reply from my previous post is infact not a disagreement from my point of view. Under my logic he is infact agreeing with me. I’ll use an example:  my funny story from yesterday is that we managed to lose our (dodgeball) playoff
game yesterday by a mere 3 points. I did happen to jam my thumb trying to catch a ball , that continues to throb today – but it was a really close game considering it was the third time we played this team and we were missing Robin, Cartman, and Erin.

This light story about losing I consider examples of common misadventures. It doesnt talk about the raging machine that was punishing people with the ball – so much so that one of the girls had to leave the room in a bit of pain (I didn’t see this at the time due to icing my hand). Also missed from the story was the dispair of someone not wanting to be video’d while i was taping.

So yes Rose Coloured Glasses are the common thing for blogging… that and as Mona pointed out with all the kids on livejournal desperate attempts at making people feel sorry for you.

I’m probably being a bit cynical – but my real point was that for most poeple a blog is an external representation of themselves – and it’s going to be written solely in the light they want to be seen – whether thats funny stories, pathetic pleas for attention, businesslike representations of how they’re currently doing with just highlights. In most cases they want attention – either via sympathy or by looking intelligent, cool, athletic etc.

I honestly don’t know where I want to fit in to any of those categories but I do know that when I overhear blogging discussion comments I cringe at how people take that out of context and don’t really understand the person.

At least I seriously hope so because I have relatives with very depressing blogs that I know are just looking for attention…

My cynical self signing off,

R.

Do you ever wonder?

Why it is that when you read someone’s blog it sounds if 99% of their life is perfect? I understand the logic but it still seems to be the case that very little daily irregularities make it into people’s blog’s.

Today for instance I spent 2h+ being stubborn for no real good reason and in that time I both cooked and did chores. Did it solve anything?

Lots of things don’t solve anything but happen in our daily lives and you wonder how much you really know of people if all you do is live vicariously through their blog to understand who they are.

Leaving you confused and uninformed,
