Winter Has My Number!

Every team has their archnemesis that manages to find creative ways to put them down and without naming any match-up that has dominated the sports world I will instead that Winter is currently mine.

Lets Recap:

440 cm of snow (Sure I don’t have a driveway to shovel).
1 Car Window (Roads Narrow, Bus’s pushed out into lanes they shouldn’t be).
1h Spent (Today) at the Theatre cleaning out snow under the car to get it unstuck.
1 Parking Complex…. yes a WHOLE Complex has collapsed in our area.

The last one listed is the most relevant at the moment considering we are unable to park in our complex. Currently all local ones are closed awaiting inspection. Try and park on the side of the road as they recommend, I think someone forgot the common sense answer that theres still 6 Foot Tall Snowbanks (or Higher) everywhere.

This day was crazy!

10000? is it enough.

The question is definitely not anything to do with any raise I may or may not be getting. It is about the idea that 10000 steps is what you should be taking a day in order to have an active lifestyle. A cursory search over the net indicates that it actually came from Japan, and that its not quite the accurate statement – as far as I can tell the idea is you need at least 1/2h of healthy activity and that amounts to 4000 steps – since the average person already walked almost 6000 this is where the number came from. Now other researchers including the Harvard Study indicate a sedentry person could walk as few as 3000 steps in a day and still be healthy – depending on diet still fit. In the end though this thought came up because during my wednesday walk to the comic book shop where I managed to not pick up anything (it helped that they had no copies of what I was looking for). At the same time I also lost my pedometer – oh well.

On a side note 10000 steps is about 5miles, and 400 calories.

Snow Zone!

Delays in posts are often the result of two things, being busy or having nothing interesting to add.

In my most recent lapse of updates it is a combination of both. My last two weeks has been fairly typical, although we did have an amazing 3 game set at volleyball. In those 3 sets we playing our best games of the season only to still lose to the first overall team.

Work has been interesting, those of you that keep up on things have heard about the pending layoffs that were announced. I am confident that I will not be affected but that is primarily based on the fact that if they were to lose me at this moment they would be “up a creek” as it were in regards to the stuff I am working on.

I was able to talk to almost all immediate family members in one weekend. Grandparents are as usual sick, Mike had a party and enjoyed it, and April is well April. No word on info from Dad but I should start the planning of my Vancouver Trip real soon.

It was a fortunate thing that I was finally at my PC when Dee was online, since we’ve been disconnected for several months. Glad she’s starting a new job this week but I also get the info that Nat is without work so that means a couple of my friends are still having job troubles.

This snow is amazing though after experiencing White Juan in Halifax you would think I have no problem with a little snow but you should see our backyard it is officially full of snow. A backyard with 1.5M tall mound of snow covering everything is an interesting sight to see, though it doesn’t compare to some snowbanks.

I picked up Blade Runner (5 Disk Final Cut edition on Blue Ray) and I have to say it really makes me want to read Asimov again. One of these days soon I’ll steal a page off Dan’s Blog and put up some opinions of what I’ve read and watched.
